Get Involved

Volunteers are the heart of our parish community, offering their time and talents in service to others. Whether behind the scenes or up front, your willingness to serve helps bring our mission of faith, hope, and love to life.

Our Parish Friendship Group welcomes new parishioners and supports all members through regular social meet-ups and occasional group outings. It’s a warm, easy way to get to know people and feel at home in the parish.

We also assist our parish priest and parish activities when needed, invite interesting speakers to give talks, and look for simple ways to build community spirit.

We enjoy working with other parish groups and the school for mutual benefit. All parishioners—and friends—are very welcome. For dates and details, please see the newsletter or contact the parish office.

The PPC is a representative, consultative body that exists to support the Parish Priest in promoting the whole mission of the Church in our parish. Meeting at least once every three months, the PPC helps to identify, implement, and review pastoral initiatives and policies that foster the spread of the Gospel and the growth of our parish community.

The PPC also provides a channel for parishioners to share concerns, suggestions, and ideas so they can be discussed and, where appropriate, put into action. To contact the PPC, please speak to the Parish Priest or email the parish office.

Readers are scheduled to proclaim the Scriptures at the 6:00pm Saturday Vigil Mass and the 9:00am and 11:00am Sunday Masses. The readings for each week are listed in the parish newsletter and can also be found in the current Parish Mass Book. If you’re interested in joining the readers’ rota, please contact the parish office.

Our parish has a team of volunteers who help keep the Church clean at times that suit them during opening hours.

All materials and simple guidance are provided. We warmly welcome new volunteers to help keep our beautiful Church a prayerful, welcoming space.

To join the rota, please speak to a welcomer or verger after Mass or contact the parish office with the form below.

Our flower ministry is a team of dedicated parishioners who, on a rota, arrange fresh flowers in the Church each week.

At Easter and Christmas they prepare especially beautiful displays to mark the great feasts. We can also provide arrangements for weddings, funerals, and baptisms on request.

To volunteer, make a donation, or discuss flowers for a liturgy, please contact the parish office.

Our Choir sings at the 11:00am Mass on Sundays and often for Feast Days and Holy Days of Obligation—including Christmas, the Sacred Triduum, and Easter. The Mass is sung in Latin; hymns, psalms, and motets are in English.

We rehearse in church on Fridays from 6:45–8:00pm and meet at 10:00am on Sundays to warm up before Mass.

If you’re interested in joining, please contact Ruth Proctor at ruthproctor73@gmail.com or come along to a Friday rehearsal.

Altar servers play a vital role in our parish liturgy. Anyone who has made their First Holy Communion is welcome to apply—there is no upper age limit. Above all, servers are not simply assisting the priest; they are serving Our Lord Jesus Christ at the altar.

At Saint Augustine’s, new servers complete a short probationary period and then are enrolled into the Guild of Saint Stephen, which encourages the highest standards of serving so that the whole community can enter more deeply into the worship of God.

Training sessions are held two or three times a year, and we encourage our servers to attend the Guild’s Annual Mass at Nottingham Cathedral each September. If you’d like to join, please speak to a priest or the MC after Mass, or contact the parish office.

Our Parish Priest celebrates Mass in the chapel at HMP Stocken for inmates who are registered as Catholic, with security officers present.

HMP Stocken is a Category C adult male training prison, and anyone wishing to volunteer must complete strict vetting and safeguarding checks. If you feel called to serve in this ministry, please contact the parish office for more information.

We visit housebound parishioners regularly—mainly for friendship and companionship—and offer practical help to those in need locally, including people who are poorer or homeless. Our work is confidential and carried out in a spirit of Christian charity.

We meet every third week in the parish meeting room from 6:00–7:00pm (dates in the Parish Newsletter).
If you—or someone you know—would welcome a visit, or if you’d like to volunteer, please contact:

Our welcomers’ and vergers’ most visible roles are welcoming people to church and taking the collection. They also prepare the church before Mass and help everything run smoothly—organising the offertory procession, ringing the church bell at the appointed times, guiding parishioners, and serving as points of contact. After Mass, they tidy the church so it’s ready for prayer.

Most welcomers and vergers assist at a regular Mass time, and we’re also grateful for parishioners who are “verger-trained” and can step in when needed. We’d love to grow the team! If you’re friendly, reliable, and willing to help, please speak to a verger after Mass or contact the parish office.
