Holy Mass

The Holy Mass is the heart of Catholic life—a sacred celebration where we encounter Christ in Word and Sacrament. At every Mass, we join in the eternal sacrifice of Jesus, receive His grace through the Eucharist, and are sent forth to live as His disciples in the world.

A Guide to Mass

For those new to the Catholic Church or simply curious about what to expect, the Mass can feel full of unfamiliar words, actions, and moments. This guide outlines the basic Order of the Mass so you can follow along, participate meaningfully, and feel more at home in our parish communities.

The Mass begins with gathering and preparation:

  2. Greeting – The priest welcomes us in the name of the Trinity.
  3. Penitential Act – We acknowledge our sins and ask for God’s mercy.
  4. Gloria – A joyful hymn of praise to God (except during Advent and Lent).
  5. Collect (Opening Prayer) – The priest prays on behalf of all, concluding the Introductory Rites.

    • Includes the Holy, Holy, Holy, Consecration, and Memorial Acclamation.
  3. The Great Amen – A joyful response affirming the prayer.

  2. Sign of Peace – We offer peace to one another.
  3. Lamb of God – A sung or said prayer for mercy and peace.
  4. Communion – Those prepared and in a state of grace may come forward to receive the Eucharist.

Concluding Rites

We are blessed and sent forth:
