Baptism
Welcome to the beginning of a beautiful journey of faith. Baptism is the first and foundational sacrament of Christian life, opening the door to all the other sacraments and to life in Christ. We rejoice with you as you consider this sacred step for your child or yourself
What Is Baptism in the Catholic Church?
In the Catholic Church, Baptism is far more than a symbol. It is a sacrament of initiation, where we are cleansed of original sin, become members of the Body of Christ, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Through the pouring of water and the invocation of the Holy Trinity, we are reborn as children of God.
Jesus Himself was baptized, and He commanded His followers to baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Baptism unites us with Christ, incorporates us into the Church, and marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith, grace, and discipleship.
For infants and young children, baptism is a powerful sign of God’s love and the faith of the Church community. Parents and godparents commit to raising the child in the Catholic faith, helping them grow in love of God and neighbour.
Preparing for your Child's Baptism
If you are seeking baptism for your child, we are honoured to walk with you. Here’s how to get started:
- Contact the Parish Office: Let us know you’re interested in having your child baptised. We’ll provide you with details and guide you through the process.
- Attend a Baptism Preparation Session: Parents and godparents are usually asked to attend a brief class to understand the meaning of baptism and the responsibilities that come with it.
- Choose Godparents: Godparents must be practicing Catholics who can serve as spiritual role models and support your child’s faith journey.
- Schedule the Baptism: Once preparation is complete, we will help you select a date for the celebration.
We look forward to welcoming your child into the Church and supporting your family as you begin this grace-filled journey together. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out—we are here to help!
