Whether you’ve been coming for decades or you’re only peering through the door for the first time, you are very welcome here.

A Little History
Catholic life in this part of Rutland has been quietly persistent, always rooted in faith. In the late nineteenth century a Catholic mission church was established in Oakham: the foundation stone was laid in 1882, and the church opened soon after in Mill Street, dedicated to SS Joseph and Edith.
As the community grew, a new church was built in 1975 on Station Road, with an integral hall and presbytery — the St Joseph’s many people know today.
It’s a gentle reminder that parishes don’t stand still: they adapt, they relocate, they change shape — and yet the heart of it remains the same: the Lord gathering His people.
St. Joseph
St Joseph is the patron of the universal Church, the quiet guardian of Jesus and Mary — a man of faithful presence, not loud words. There’s something very “Oakham” about that: steady, local, practical holiness. In a world that rewards noise, St Joseph gently teaches us to listen, to keep going, to do the next right thing, and to trust God with what we cannot fix.
If you’re praying for family life, for work, for patience, for courage, for the grace to begin again — St Joseph is a good friend to have.

Worship and Parish Life at St Joseph’s
At the centre of our life is Holy Mass — the Lord feeding His people with His own life. We also gather for the sacraments (Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Marriage), and we do our best to look after one another in simple, human ways.
After Sunday Mass at St Joseph’s there is often the homely kindness of tea and coffee, and on Wednesdays as well — nothing fancy, just a chance to be known and to belong.
If you’re new, that cup of tea can be the easiest first step.
