St Mary and St Augustine’s is a town-centre church, which means it is used in all sorts of ways. Some come early and pray in silence. Some arrive with children and bags and the mild chaos of family life. Some stop in briefly, light a candle, and carry on with their day. All of that belongs.

The present church opened in 1865, and it still carries the marks of that era: a confident Catholic building, made to endure, made to lift the heart.
