Who they are
CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, is the official aid and development agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, and part of Caritas Internationalis, the worldwide family of Catholic relief agencies known as “the helping hand of the Church.” It is guided by three simple values: compassion, solidarity, and hope.
What they do
Working through local Church partners in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, CAFOD reaches people and places that larger agencies often cannot. It tackles the roots of poverty and injustice, responds to emergencies with immediate relief, and stays with communities for the long term, helping families build a future of dignity, whatever their religion or culture.
How our parish supports them
Like Catholic parishes across the country, our parish takes up CAFOD’s two great appeals each year: the Lent Family Fast Day and the Harvest Fast Day. Details of each are shared in the newsletter and from the altar when the time comes.
How you can help
Give to the Fast Day collections, take a CAFOD envelope home, or donate and learn more directly through CAFOD. And whenever you pray, hold the world’s poorest before the Lord.
